April 9th – “Why Palm Sunday?”    Rev. Marilyn Richards
What might a tree have to do with it?  We will be considering the historical context of Palm Sunday, as a version of the Triumphal march in ancient Rome and the Roman pagan symbolism about trees.  History expands our understanding of the holiday, and it’s relevance today.

April 16th – EASTER BASKET BLESSING & BRUNCH at 10:00 AM
Easter baskets in our Polish and Hungarian Unitarian traditions were meant to sustain life without candy.  They were filled with substantial food, like a leg of lamb, a wheel of cheese, wine, condiments, anything needed for food security in the early spring, before edible food started to grow. These baskets were covered with heavily decorated cloths.
We have an all American potluck and worship service to honor this tradition.  Everyone brings a dish that should be covered with a pretty cloth.  The dishes are unveiled during the service.

IN CLOSING

Spring Pools –  by Robert Frost

These pools that, though in forests, still reflect
The total sky almost without defect,
And like the flowers beside them, chill and shiver,
Will like the flowers beside them soon be gone,
And yet not out by any brook or river,
But up by roots to bring dark foliage on.

The trees that have it in their pent-up buds
To darken nature and be summer woods –
Let them think twice before they use their powers
To blot out and drink up and sweep away
These flowery waters and these watery flowers
From snow that melted only yesterday.
