IN CLOSING

On This Day In Unitarian Universalist History
by Frank Schulman, adapted by Rev. Marilyn

September 7, 1782

On September 7, 1782, Rev. Charles Chauncy published his life’s work, a theological tome titled: The Mystery Hid from Ages and Generations, or, The Salvation of All Men.  Chauncy was a conservative Unitarian minister, who adopted the Universalist position of universal salvation.  He argued that the punishments of Hell are not eternal and that eventually all people will be redeemed, thus supporting spiritual equality, and the inherent tendency towards goodness of all human beings.
